Siyaphumelela Conference 2023
28 (08:30) - 30 (12:00) June 2023
Wanderers Club Johannesburg
Registration Fee: R3600.00 excl. VAT
The conference will highlight three years of the Siyaphumelela Network 2.0, reflecting on the key successes of the network: Coaches; Regional Networks; Service Workshops; and Workstreams. In the first two days of the conference, our seven partner institutions will present their gains in Siyaphumelela 2.0. On Friday, 30 June, Vice-Chancellors or Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic/ Teaching and Learning of the partner universities will have a panel discussion on future student success priorities, reflecting on what has worked and looking forward to what is needed.
Highlights in the program include a Mental Health workshop/session coordinated by the Siyaphumelela Mental Health Workstream and presentations by the First Year Experience Workstream. There will also be a cocktail function for all delegates on the evening of 29 June.
Call for Proposals
We invite proposals from a range of disciplines (such as ethics, learning design, academic advising and STEM fields) that make use of data to support an integrative approach for student success. Proposals should, ideally, demonstrate the application of learnings from the Siyaphumelela programme in their project and present empirical evidence of the intervention improving student success. We encourage authors to include student authors.
In particular, we are keen to receive proposals for innovative projects that: Explore factors to achieve equality and social justice in education; and Whole-university engagement in student success.
In addition, the conference is interested in: Leadership and innovation for student success especially related to equality, social justice and Holistic Student Success efforts; The role of students in shaping student success; Contemporary learning design for HE and TVET institutions to improve student success; and Institutional perspectives supporting student success.
Deadline for Proposals 31 May 2023
